By the time of ULVER's 2002 Norwegian Grammy nomination for the soundtrack to the Swedish short film LYCKANTROPEN, the group had been widely recognized by the movie business in Norway, resulting in numerous invitations to paint the canvas with their music.

SVIDD NEGER was the first million dollar project sponsored by the new Norwegian Film Fund under the direction of Erlend Loe, a best-selling author and notorious polemic figure in the fatherland. It is ULVER's first full feature film score. Not the last.

SVIDD NEGER caused havoc due to its utter disrespect of the movie machinery and common morale. As its title is Burnt Negro in English the film was of course reported to the European Court of Human Rights in Hague. Sentence impending. Prejudiced positions and heated moral debates hit all prime time networks long before anyone saw the light (or dark, of course, depending on your point of view). A scandalous explosion in the gut of sound-sane Norway.

A berserker cabaret of incest, murder and rape in the ripe nature of Norway. Arson, blasphemy and magic mushrooms. Jack Daniels and the American dream. One black and one white. Masturbation. Poltergeists.

Both screenplay writer and director insisted on the peripheral power ULVER for music to their borderline cinema. The soundtrack CD is a crystal selection from ULVER's filthy and fragmented body for the film, reworked and compiled for the listening blind. All for the director in you.
