STAR OF ASH is the solo project of Heidi S. Tveitan aka Ihriel of the acclaimed experimental metal act PECCATUM. After several years and releases with PECCATUM, she developed ideas for a new musical entity, soon supported and signed to the Norwegian freak label, JESTER RECORDS, in 2001.
The debut album ITER.VIATOR is a poetic and graceful drama, a melancholic movement over strings, guitars, keyboards, drums and voices, echoing CURRENT 93, early DEAD CAN DANCE and CRAIG ARMSTRONG soundtracks.
This album pushes the boundaries of traditional genre categorization
and instrument usage, while remaining true to a soulful pattern that is Heidi S. Tveitan's alone. ITER.VIATOR. also presents guest appearances by members of EMPEROR and ULVER.
Even though Heidi's previous work was related to the outer boundaries of Metal, STAR OF ASH has been embraced by an audience far beyond genre. The album has already caught the attention and won the praise of a wide variety of international music publications, which have labeled ITER.VIATOR as a perfect example of pushing dark artistic bounds in new and remarkable ways.
As far as whether Heidi is planning to continue to work on more Star of Ash material in the future, she remains open. "I'm already quite happy being the sole chariot of this project My main motivation for making music is the desire to invent stories; to release my work is to read those stories aloud.
